The Story Of A Man Taking His Cab Driver To Abu Dhabi Theme Park Has Touched People Worldwide

In a world often dominated by news of conflict and hardship, a story of simple human kindness can warm the hearts of many.

Such is the case with Facebook user Liam Murphy, a 27-year-old test engineer from Cork, Ireland, whose act of generosity towards his taxi driver, Shakiha, has touched people worldwide.

While on a work trip in the United Arab Emirates, Murphy decided to visit Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, renowned as the largest indoor theme park in the world.

Typically, tourists hire a taxi for the day, leaving their drivers waiting outside for hours. However, Murphy’s encounter with his taxi driver led to an unexpected and joyful day for both men.

During the drive, Murphy learned that Shakiha, who has been driving tourists to Ferrari World for 14 years, had never entered the park himself. For Shakiha, spending £44 (approximately $61) to enter the park was too expensive because he wanted to send as much money he earned as possible back home to support his family in India.

Touched by Shakiha’s story, Murphy decided to change his plans. Instead of leaving Shakiha outside, he invited him to join him inside Ferrari World, covering the entrance and entertainment fee for him.

The two new friends embarked on an adventure filled with thrilling rides and unforgettable experiences. They first rode the Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest roller coaster, which accelerates to 240 km/h in just five seconds. They also enjoyed the Fiorano GT Challenge, where they raced in a Ferrari F430 Spider, and admired the park’s collection of rare and expensive Ferraris.

Murphy later shared his experience on Facebook, initially intending it for his friends. However, the post quickly went viral, attracting global media attention.

Despite the fame, Murphy remained humble, stating that there was no special inspiration behind his gesture; he simply wanted to share the fun with Shakiha.

Reflecting on the day, Murphy admitted there were moments of awkwardness and doubt, especially when he left his belongings with Shakiha while riding the roller coaster again. Nonetheless, the day was filled with laughter and joy, particularly as Shakiha, who had never experienced a roller coaster before, began to relax and enjoy the rides.

The viral post brought Murphy into the spotlight, but he soon found the attention overwhelming. He expressed regret over sharing personal details about Shakiha, particularly his financial responsibilities.

“I probably couldn’t face the man [again now that] the whole world knows that he sends money back to his family in India,” said Murphy. “Everyone deserves privacy in their lives. I just blew the cover on that and that’s unfair.”

Murphy later changed his last name on Facebook to regain some privacy and protect Shakiha’s dignity.
