Every moment from when a couple finds out that they’re expecting to the point of childbirth is special for new parents, and they start getting to know more about the child months before the delivery. Some parents opt to wait till the child’s birth to know the gender, while others find happiness in planning a fun-filled gender reveal. Olympic Swimmer Ryan Murphy’s wife wanted to have one such unique and exciting gender reveal to surprise her husband. On July 29, Murphy was celebrating his glorious bronze medal win in the men’s 100-m backstroke in the Paris Olympics when his pregnant wife pulled off the most epic gender reveal, as reported by NBC.

Representing the USA, the 29-year-old swimmer already holds 3 golds from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics as well as one gold and one silver from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as per Team USA. He added another feather to his cap by winning a bronze for the USA this year, but there was another reason for Murphy to celebrate as his wife Bridget cheered for him from the audience holding a placard that said, “Ryan, It’s a girl!” The swimmer was expecting a daughter and he couldn’t have wished for a better gender reveal.

The elated swimmer went ahead and hugged his wife who was holding the placard in the audience and the soon-to-be parents celebrated the two significant moments on the same day. “That’s a great way to find out. That really lit me up and brought this night to a whole other level. It’s really exciting to learn that I’m going to be a girl dad,” Murphy told the news channel. When asked if he wanted a girl, Murphy told NBC 6, “Yeah, I mean, I’m not going to go in and be like, I hope it’s this or that. If it was my choice I would have had twins. But having a baby girl is awesome.”

The Florida-based Olympian got married last September and he and his wife are hoping to welcome their baby daughter in January 2025. “My life is going to change, and I’m really excited about that. It definitely does put things into perspective. I think up to this point, swimming has been the most important thing in my life. Every major decision I make is with swimming in mind, and that’s going to change coming up,” Murphy said. “I’m really looking forward to what’s coming, a baby girl,” he added.
