Doctors Create 3D-Printed Ultrasound To Help Blind Woman ‘See’ Her Unborn Baby

When you find out that you’re pregnant, you might have a massive mix of emotions all at once, such as joy, surprise, panic, anxiety, and relief. You wonder what your baby will look like and, more importantly, whether he or she will be healthy.

That’s the reason why many moms expect to get to see an ultrasound of their unborn child. Prenatal ultrasounds are a big part of pregnancy. It helps moms track how their babies are growing and gives them the first sweet glimpses of their little ones.

Sadly, many blind mothers are not able to experience this precious moment. But thanks to 3D printing technology, these unlucky mothers can finally experience the emotional moment of having a “look” at their unborn children for the first time during an ultrasound.

A mother from Brazil also got to experience the joy of seeing her unborn baby thanks to 3D ultrasound technology, just like any other mother. The mom, Tatiana Guerra, was blind when she was just 17 years old. For this reason, when she was pregnant, she could not see her son making progress through ultrasound images.

She was very eager to learn about his progress, but her blindness didn’t let her do that. She had no choice but to rely on the doctors to describe to her what he looked like like on ultrasound.

“What does his face look like, doctor?” asks Guerra in Portuguese. “His nose looks like yours … his two little eyes are closed … how do you imagine him?” he responds. “Oh, I imagine him,” the expectant mom says. “His nose like a little potato … a small mouth …chubby little hand.”

Looking at her sad and dissatisfied face, the doctors thought of giving her a 3D image printed of the ultrasound, which would help her feel the child. They used a 3D printer to convert the ultrasound image into a physical model of the unborn baby.

When Tatiana touched the relief sculpture of her son’s face, happy tears streamed down her face. The entire staff couldn’t hold back their tears when witnessing this touching moment.

Here is the video of her seeing her unborn baby Murilo for the very first time and her touching reaction:

We are sure that once her beloved baby comes into this world, he will fill her unlucky life with joy and love. If you love this touching story, please share it with your friends and family members!
