Despite our adeptness at planning, life has a knack for throwing unexpected surprises our way. This reality hit home for a young couple from Alabama who found themselves in awe when they welcomed two sets of identical twins within a mere 13-month span.
The couple first welcomed twin boys
In 2021, Britney and Frankie Alba, a youthful couple hailing from Alabama, joyfully embraced the arrival of their twin sons, Luke and Levi. A mere six months after stepping into parenthood for the first time, Britney received the surprising news of another pregnancy. Little did she imagine that their family of four would swiftly transform into a family of six.
They initially just wanted one more child
While yearning for one more, the Albas never anticipated that their second pregnancy would result in twins. Reflecting on the moment, Britney remembers her husband playfully jesting, “Are you sure it’s not 2?” To their astonishment, the ultrasound technician confirmed the presence of a second presence. “I was definitely in shock, but I was excited,” expressed Frankie.
No one in their family ever had twins before
According to the happy couple, twins don’t run in either of their families, so the news was pretty incredible: “I would have never guessed in a million years that I would have one set of twins, much less a second set,” Britney said, adding that she wasn’t scared: “I remember thinking, ’OK! Round 2,’” she says.
The joyful couple shared that neither of their families had a history of twins, making the news even more extraordinary. Britney expressed her amazement, stating, “I would have never guessed in a million years that I would have one set of twins, much less a second set. I remember thinking, ‘OK! Round 2,'” without a hint of fear.
They were blessed with a pair of gorgeous girls
In this new chapter of parenthood, the Albas were graced with the arrival of two beautiful girl twins, Lydia and Lynlee. Reflecting on the moment, the 27-year-old mom shared, “We were super excited. But it was like a laughing-and-crying-at-the-same-time moment.” Although twin pregnancies are not uncommon, the rarity of having two consecutive sets of twins made this experience even more exceptional.
The Albas got a rare case of twinning
Adding to this story’s extraordinary nature, the girl twins, Lydia and Lynlee, are classified as ‘MoMo’ twins. This means that they shared the same placenta, amniotic sac, and fluid in the womb.
This condition is exceptionally rare and high-risk, occurring in less than 1% of all births in the US. Therefore, Britney had to spend a significant amount of time in the hospital before the girls were born. Fortunately, both her daughters arrived healthy through a C-section in October 2022.
