Mum Faces Criticism for Piercing Baby’s Ears, But She Had the Best Reaction

The debate around piercing a baby’s ears often stirs up strong feelings and opinions, touching on cultural, medical, and personal beliefs about the right age for it. Recently, a mom on TikTok faced criticism for choosing to pierce her 4-month-old baby’s ears.

Sandy, a mom of three, shared that her own ears were pierced as a baby, and she values that choice her parents made. Even though she doesn’t remember it, Sandy decided to pierce her baby’s ears based on her own positive experience.

Taking her baby to a piercing studio in Canada, Sandy expected support, which she got from some but faced disapproval from a few parents who thought it was “cruel.” Sandy defended her choice, explaining, “It’s recommended to do it earlier so they’re less likely to touch and pull on their ears!” Many agreed with her viewpoint.

Medical professionals don’t set specific rules on when babies should get their ears pierced, leaving it up to parents. They generally suggest waiting until the baby is older than 3 months.

In the TikTok video, Sandy, with her baby on her lap, demonstrated the process, admitting she had to say a prayer because she couldn’t bear to see her baby cry. She carefully held her baby’s head still while professionals used a piercing gun on each ear. Tears filled her eyes, but her discomfort seemed to ease as her sons arrived to comfort their little sister.
