Veteran, Unable To Pay For His Groceries, Gets Surprised When A Customer Behind Him Says, “It’s Our Turn”

During challenging times, everyone deserves compassion and assistance from their loved ones to overcome adversity.

This sentiment is particularly vital for the courageous individuals who selflessly dedicate themselves to serving their nation, seeking no compensation in return.

A veteran facing difficulties in life, dedicated to assisting others, receives a well-deserved surprise while shopping for groceries.

Regrettably, many veterans encounter hardships upon their return from service. Without serving for a certain duration, they often find that the benefits provided are insufficient for survival. Moreover, some struggle to navigate civilian life once they transition from military service.

Larry Robeson is intimately familiar with these challenges. According to reports, Larry, a Vietnam veteran barely managing to cover basic needs, found himself in a dire situation, uncertain about where to seek assistance.

A heartwarming encounter unfolds when a group known as the “Surprise Squad” comes across a veteran in need at a Las Vegas grocery store.

Larry, facing financial difficulties, coincidentally encounters the Fox 5 Surprise Squad while shopping. This group, known for their acts of kindness, was at the store offering to pay for people’s groceries.

Despite his own struggles, Larry had brought his friend Stephanie, a disabled veteran, along to the store. Stephanie shared with a reporter from Fox 5 that she was purchasing food for herself and her dogs. She admitted that she only had $50 left and was uncertain about what to do next.

Dave Hall, the reporter leading the Surprise Squad, happily informed Stephanie that he and his team would cover her groceries, bringing her great joy.

During this interaction, Dave noticed Larry standing quietly behind Stephanie. Larry, a friend of Stephanie’s husband, had founded the Bones for Blankets club years ago. The club’s mission was to provide blankets to homeless veterans who had served their country but were left on the streets.

Sadly, Larry had initiated this club after witnessing the tragic deaths of three fellow veterans who had succumbed to the cold. His goal was to prevent any more veterans from experiencing such a fate.

Larry shared with the Surprise Squad how Stephanie’s husband, a truck driver often away from home, relied on him to keep Stephanie company and assist her due to her disability.

Expressing his deep concern, Larry emphasized to the Surprise Squad that no veteran should endure the hardships Stephanie faced.

Despite Larry’s intention to only buy dish soap and candy, Dave Hall insisted that Larry wouldn’t leave the store without the Surprise Squad team covering his groceries.

Moved by Larry’s service to the country, Dave expressed, “You served us. It’s our turn to serve you now.” Overwhelmed by the unexpected kindness, Larry was brought to tears.

With Dave and the team’s generosity, Larry was encouraged to freely choose whatever he needed from the store. As he went around, his selections totaled $278, leaving him emotional as the bill was settled.

“This is just overwhelming. I’ve been taking care of myself since I was 13,” Larry tearfully expressed.
