Simon Cowell has faced numerous health issues due to two separate bicycle accidents that happened within a two-year span. These incidents were openly discussed by Simon and his fellow judges from America’s Got Talent during their recent appearance on the Today Show, which was hosted by Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Terry Crews.
At the age of 63, the well-known celebrity encountered similar mishaps while cycling in London in early 2022, following a previous fall from his e-bike in Malibu in 2020.
In a promotional feature for the upcoming 18th season of America’s Got Talent, Simon was asked about how his perspective on life had shifted following his experiences with the accidents.
Reflecting on his physical condition before the tragedies, he admitted, “I wasn’t exactly in the best shape prior to the mishaps, so they were far from pleasant, rather quite dreadful.” He confessed that he didn’t fully realize his lack of fitness until he began the recovery process.
Describing the experience as a revelation, Simon emphasized it as a profound moment. He acknowledged his deep passion for cycling and believed that there was a divine purpose behind everything that had occurred.
Expressing his determination, he declared, “I’m not ready to give up on my bike,” much to the amusement of his colleagues. Simon expressed his enduring fascination with the incredible invention of bicycles.
Following the second incident, Simon was admitted to the hospital, where medical examinations revealed a broken arm and a concussion.

Despite the second crash being less severe than the first, Simon ended up breaking his back and had to wear a wrist brace for several months. These incidents prompted him to make significant lifestyle changes, particularly for the sake of his nine-year-old son, Eric, and with the support and encouragement of his fiancée, Lauren Silverman.
In an interview with The Sun in April of the previous year, Simon opened up about the aftermath of his e-bike accident. He revealed, “I was in such a dark place when I fractured my back that I contemplated seeking therapy for the first time ever.”
Simon expressed his frustration at not being able to fully communicate his feelings to Eric and wondered when he would be able to engage in activities with him again, such as playing football and going for walks.
Eric, born to Simon and Lauren on February 14, 2014, became a source of light during Simon’s recovery journey. Following his bike accidents, the television personality shared that his son had humorously given him a new nickname.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the judge of Britain’s Got Talent admitted feeling “embarrassed” while watching episodes from home.
Following surgery, Simon’s back is now supported by metal rods and screws. Yet, he found solace in his son’s comparison of him to the iconic superhero Iron Man.
Simon fondly recalled his son’s remark upon reuniting with his family, “Dad, you look like Iron Man.” “Yeah, I’m like Iron Man,” Simon proudly grinned.
Since then, Simon has embraced humor in coping with his challenges. He even downplayed the severity of his initial injuries sustained while working on the AGT stage in June 2021.
During a demonstration featuring a kid-friendly Shaolin Kung Fu act, Terry, being curious, asked Simon if he could envision himself attempting such risky acrobatics.
In jest, Simon responded to the pair, “After hurting my back, simply walking around the garden with Eric felt like a great achievement. However, I couldn’t help but think, ‘Maybe not such a good idea!'”
Simon’s journey of resilience and self-reflection exemplifies his unwavering determination.
Despite the setbacks caused by the bicycle accidents, he maintains his passion for cycling and life in general, all while finding humor in his misadventures.
