Embracing parenthood unveils a dimension of love beyond our comprehension. The day one transitioned into parenthood stands as the most joyous in their life. The moment one gazes upon their newborn, a profound realization dawnes, and changes their whole perspective. It’s a sentiment widely shared by countless parents globally.
However, not every parent shares in this universal experience. Regrettably, there are individuals who, inexplicably, choose to abandon or, even more disturbingly, harm their own blood.
Embarking on a journey that spans both joy and heartbreak, the narrative of a Paraguayan family commences with Doña Ignacia, who celebrated her 90th birthday in 2021. During her earlier years, she welcomed a son named Pablo Acuña, only to realize that his development was not normal. “I swiftly recognized that my son, from an early age, was not progressing as he should,” the mother recounted.
Eventually, she and her husband took him to the hospital to find out what was wrong. “He was in the hospital for two or three months, then his dad brought him back just like when they left,” said Ignacia.
Tragically, it unfolded that Pablo entered the world with a rare condition hindering the growth of his limbs, rendering him without arms and legs.
Unfazed by this challenge, his mother remained steadfast by his side, caring for him with utmost dedication. As Pablo got older, the aid of a wheelchair became necessary, yet his mother consistently emphasized his uniqueness, reinforcing that he was having a fulfilling life just like anyone else.
Maybe it was this empathy that instilled in Pablo the resilience needed to make an impact when he eventually became a parent himself. According to accounts, he fathered two daughters, only to face the heartbreak of the mother abandoning them while they were still young.
In spite of the evident hardships and obstacles throughout his life, Pablo managed to nurture the two girls with affection and attention. Now in their twenties, one of them, Elida, fondly speaks about her father. She describes him as wise and intelligent, even though he never received a formal education.
Elida adds that he consistently radiates happiness and positivity, regardless of the adversities he has gone through.
“My dad is my world. He is my friend… he is the best dad in the world. That’s why I left my life in Argentina and came to stay, to be able to take care of him because, my grandmother can no longer do it because she is already old,” said Elida.
Not all heroes wear capes, and a lot of these heroes are our beloved parents, just like Pablo here.
